CURRENT PHASE: PARTNER ONBOARDING

The institutional case

Every organization on Earth operates under the Sun, and responsible organizations help fund its future. Daylight is the oldest business input, delivered to every industry, in every market, every day, on terms no supplier has matched since. No enterprise has ever received an invoice for it, an omission the Foundation regards as the largest unexamined line item in the history of commerce. Corporate Solar Responsibility offers leadership teams a way to place that dependency on the record. This is not activism, and the Foundation would decline to be associated with any. It is fiduciary realism, the recognition that every five year plan quietly assumes a functioning star, and that this assumption currently appears in no filing anywhere.

Current phase work

Partner onboarding has begun, preceded by ratification of the Solar Neutral certification criteria, which certify that an organization’s net effect on the Sun is zero, a standard every applicant to date has met. The executive briefing deck has reached version 14, and the thirteen preceding versions have been honorably retired. The annual partnership report template has been approved for all future years, ensuring consistency across a reporting horizon of unusual length. Recognition tier nomenclature is final after extended debate, and the tiers ascend in the traditional manner, from membership through allyship to circles. Cause marketing guidance has been drafted so that partners may reference the Sun accurately, respectfully, and with the Foundation’s mark at the approved size.

What your support enables

Corporate participation enables the certification registry, the briefing calendar, and the partnership report, which will be produced annually whether or not there is news. Employee giving programs allow a workforce to express through structure what it already believes in the parking lot each morning. Certification confers no ability to influence the Sun, and the Foundation is careful to say so, since overpromising is the mark of lesser institutions. What a partner truly gains is documentation, the durable public record that when the Sun’s future was in question, the organization was on file.

Forward outlook

The Foundation projects steady growth in certified partners, on the reasoning that the addressable market is every organization that exists. The key obstacle is disclosed to every prospect in the first meeting, no organization has yet achieved measurable impact on the Sun, and the certification framework has been designed to remain valid under those conditions indefinitely. Future phases contemplate sector councils, an executive summit held indoors, and a supplier standard through which responsibility can flow down the value chain the way sunlight flows down, evenly and without negotiation. The Sun has not endorsed any partner, any tier, or the program itself, and the Foundation considers this neutrality one more thing the Sun has gotten exactly right. Business has always known what it owes its oldest supplier. The paperwork now exists.
